Mornings to Get Even Better with Free Electricity Supply
Direct Energy offers Time-of-Use product for small commercial customers
Harrisburg, PA (December 12, 2014) - Direct Energy Business announced its Free Power Morning Plan offering free electricity supply Monday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. for its small commercial customers with a smart meter in the PPL Electric Utilities territory. The program is currently approved by the Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission to run from December 10, 2014 through May 31, 2015. This offering is part of PPL Electric’s Pilot Time-of-Use (TOU) Program, which partners with Electric Generation Suppliers to create TOU rates for both residential and small commercial and industrial customers.
The intent of this program is to encourage customers who participate in the program to reduce electricity use during certain hours during the day when the demand for electricity is high and costs more, and shift their usage to periods when the demand for electricity is lower and cheaper.
“For our small commercial customers, convenience and flexibility are important, and with the new Free Power Morning Plan, we are continuing to build on our commitment to our customers by giving them just that,” said Stephen Girard, head of small business, Direct Energy Business.
Customers who sign up for the Free Power Morning Plan will receive free electricity supply Monday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. only for length of the initial term. Customers are still responsible for utility transmission and distribution charges and applicable taxes on the power used for hours outside of the 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. time frame. During the remaining hours each day, the customer will be charged a fixed-rate of 9.49 cents per kWh.
Direct Energy is also offering a TOU product for its residential customers via the same PPL pilot program, known as the Best Hourly Rate Plan for a 25-month term. From 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. the rate is 11.99 cents a kWh, and from 7 p.m. to 12 p.m. the rate is 8.99 cents a kWh.
Customers are encouraged to contact their utility or check their utility bill to see if they have a smart meter before enrolling. Further, Direct Energy also encourages potential new participants or customers that are under contract with another supplier to review their contracts for potential obligations prior to enrolling.
