New Jersey Increases Solar Requirements for RPS

On July 23, 2012, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie signed legislation into law to increase the state’s solar goals by amending the New Jersey Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS). Beginning June 1, 2013, there will be an increase in the solar renewable energy credit (REC) requirements, which are changing from a fixed amount per megawatt hour requirement to a percentage-based requirement.

As a result of this change in New Jersey state law, businesses and consumers in New Jersey will begin to see increases in their RPS costs beginning on June 1, 2013.
