Daily market update

Early Morning Update

The Oct16 natural gas contract is trading up $0.05 at $2.72.  The Oct16 crude contract is up $0.86 at $46.36.

Summary

The prompt NG contract finished lower for a second straight day with the Oct ‘16 contract falling $.041 to finish the day at $2.676.  Weather forecasts remain bullish but as we move through September, above average temperatures are less meaningful and perhaps the market was reacting to that.  This week is expected  to be especially hot with chances of setting peak demands in several regions.

NG production data is little changed this week with some recovery happening after Hurricane Hermine, with daily data coming in at roughly 72 Bcf/d.  Power burns started the month low but have moved higher the past few days as heat and humidity blanket much of the east coast.

Expectations for a storage build remain in the low 40’s Bcf, and estimates for end-of-season storage levels hover near 4,000 Bcf, near last years’ level.
