Daily market update

Early Morning Update

The Jun16 natural gas contract is flat at $2.10.  The Jun16 crude contract is down $.04 at $44.62.

A very quiet day as the NYMEX prompt contract ended the week with little drama, closing at $2.101, up $.025 on the day and down $.077 on the week.  The market seems stuck in a trading range with a low of roughly $2.05 and a high of $2.15.  The market seems to be waiting for more clarity on summer weather and the potential for higher power burns.  Temperatures have been quite mild for the past few weeks with only a small amount of lingering heating demand in the northeast but little extreme weather that might otherwise provide price direction.  Most power markets have been fairly stable over the past two weeks with the exceptions being California where the Aliso Canyon issue dominates, and Nepool where ongoing questions surrounding potential pipeline expansions linger.  Estimates for a storage report call for a build in the low 60’s, well below the 5-year average (79) and last year (101).
