The Direct Energy Business Demand Response solution is uniquely designed around our customers. We deliver state-of-the-art monitoring technology that provides usage insights at the equipment level. It's part of the complete offering of electricity and natural solutions we offer at Direct Energy Business, a leading retail energy supplier.

If your business is located in the Midwest Independent System Operator (MISO) territory and can reduce its consumption when called upon by the ISO, you could earn money by participating in a demand response (DR) program. And, Direct Energy Business can help.

MISO Demand Response Programs

MISO offers two demand response programs that we can help facilitate your participation in—the Load Modifying Resource (LMR) program and the Emergency Demand Response (EDR).

With the LMR program, your business:

  • Must be able to curtail at least 100kW
  • Must be available to curtail at least five times per year for at least four consecutive hours
  • Is required to curtail during the summer months (June-Aug.)
  • Can receive up to 12 hours’ notice prior to an event
  • Will receive a capacity payment, even if no event is called

With the EDR program, your business can:

  • Receive make-whole energy payments by curtailing during Emergency Events
  • Dual-register as an LMR and EDR resource simultaneously

Note: there have been no emergency events since 2006.

What is MISO?

MISO is a regional transmission organization (RTO) responsible for the safe, cost-effective delivery of electric power across all or parts of Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. Its primary function is to strengthen the reliability of the region’s electrical grid and demand response programs play an important role in achieving this goal.

What Does MISO Demand Response Pay?

Businesses in the MISO territory can receive an estimated $25,000+ per megawatt-year (MW-year) for participation in demand response.
