The Direct Energy Business Demand Response solution is uniquely designed around our customers. We deliver state-of-the-art monitoring technology that provides usage insights at the equipment level. It's part of the complete offering of electricity and natural solutions we offer at Direct Energy Business, a leading retail energy supplier.

Regulated by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) is a not-for-profit corporation that manages the movement of wholesale electricity in New York. Its primary function is to maintain the reliability of the power grid throughout the region, and Demand Response programs play an important role in achieving this goal.

NYISO Demand Response Program Details

  • The summer program runs from May to October; the winter program runs from November to April.
  • Direct Energy Business will notify facilities at least 21 hours prior to a potential Demand Response event and provide at least a 2-hour notice before an actual event occurs.
  • Receive monthly capacity payments to be on “stand by,” whether there are any Demand Response curtailment events or not

Since 2004, there has been an average of one to two events per year.

New York Utility Demand Response program details:

The Distribution Load Relief Program (DLRP) is an emergency management program designed to prevent blackouts. The Commercial System Relief Program (CSRP) is a peak management program meant to keep electric rates from increasing significantly during periods of very high energy usage. Utility programs are available in summer from May to September.

  • For the DLRP program, we will give you at least a 2-hour warning prior to an event.
  • For the CSRP program, we will give you at least a 21-hour warning prior to a potential event.
  • Receive monthly capacity payments to be on "stand by," whether there are any Demand Response curtailment events or not.
