Small Business Saturday has gained popularity in recent years as an important way to support your local businesses.
This year, Small Business Saturday will take place on Saturday, November 26, 2016. To help celebrate the positive impact small businesses have in our communities, we’ve put together this list of ten things you should know ahead of Small Business Saturday.
10. The inaugural Small Business Saturday was created by American Express and took place on the first Saturday after Thanksgiving in 2010.
9. The initial aim of Small Business Saturday was to create a day between Black Friday and Cyber Monday that was solely devoted to promoting small and locally-owned businesses.

5. Among high patenting firms, small businesses produce 16 times more patents per employee than large patenting firms.
4. According to the National Women's Business Council, there were 9.9 million women-owned businesses in 2012, a 27.5 percent increase over the prior five years.
