Denver vs. Carolina: Who Wins the Energy Bowl?

read | Share:

As one of the largest retail energy suppliers in North America, we’re committed to helping businesses get the most out of their energy use.

Given our distinct focus on total energy management, we thought it would be fun and interesting to see how the two contenders for the big game — their respective fan bases, cities and states — stack up when it comes to managing their overall energy consumption.

Our infographic offers a head-to-head matchup on a variety of energy indicators, ranging from city energy efficiency ranking to game day energy management:

After an incredibly close contest, Denver claims the title in overtime. The team was lifted by its top 10 city energy efficiency ranking from the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), an ambitious statewide energy savings target, a number of nationally-certified energy efficient buildings, more than 2.5 gigawatts (GW) of installed wind capacity, and an impressive game day energy management plan

While Denver received higher marks in some categories, North Carolina is – in many ways – becoming a national energy leader. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), the state received more than half of its total electricity generation from low-carbon sources – including nuclear, natural gas, and renewables – in 2014. Equally impressive, is that North Carolina is now ranked fourth nationally in cumulative installed solar electric capacity and is leading the charge with alternative fueling stations. It’s now in the top 10 nationally with compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling stations

Congratulations to Denver and Carolina in reaching the first-ever Energy Bowl, and best of luck to both teams this Sunday at Levi’s Stadium in San Francisco – the first LEED Gold certified football stadium.
