Cold Weather Sets Winter Electric Demand Record in PJM, Tennessee Valley Authority

read | Share:

Due to the recent cold snap, preliminary data reflects that PJM Interconnection set a new winter peak load record last week reaching 143,800 megawatts (MW) the morning of February 20. Demand continues to be met in PJM thanks to preparations taken after last winter’s polar vortex.

In addition, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), the nation’s largest utility, reported it hit an estimated 32,129 MW on February 19, with the previous record for February being 31,056 MW on February 5, 2009.

The good news is that there were no significant operational issues that curtailed electric output.
