Direct Energy Business and Xpress Natural Gas unveil innovative CNG facility in New York

read | Share:

Last week, Direct Energy Business helped unveil a new, cutting-edge compressed natural gas (CNG) facility in New York.

The new utility-owned facility is a “first of its kind” application for CNG, and a precedent-setting partnership between Xpress Natural Gas (XNG), New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG), and Direct Energy Business.

The project is the result of more than 18 months of planning in close coordination with the project partners and the City of Mechanicville. By incorporating CNG as a supplemental gas supply for winter peak demand days, NYSEG was able to announce the formal lifting of a three-year old moratorium on new customers.

The new station can accommodate up to four delivery trucks at any given time to help supply gas to the local communities. With winter quickly approaching, the facility is expected to provide immediate benefits by expanding gas service to NYSEG’s approximately 2,400 customers in Mechanicville, and the towns of Stillwater and Halfmoon, New York.
