The holidays are just around the corner, and with shopping deals via the ever-popular Black Friday and Cyber Monday, it’s a perfect time to kick off the gift buying season. But, let’s not forget about a shopping holiday for small businesses founded in 2010 by American Express – Small Business Saturday – which occurs on November 29, 2014.

American Express founded Small Business Saturday to bring more awareness to retailers sometimes forgotten during the busy shopping season - small businesses. In 2011, this day was officially recognized by the U.S. Senate and by 2012, there was an estimated $5.5 billion spent at small independently owned businesses on this day.
