read | Share:

Direct Energy Business is thrilled to be working with Trib Total Media to bring the Small Business Community Heroes award program to the Pittsburgh region for the second year in a row, and with Digital 435 by The Baltimore Sun to bring the same program to Baltimore for the first time ever.

The Small Business Community Heroes award program will recognize small business owners who exemplify the volunteer spirit. Do you know a small business owner who makes his or her community a better place to live?

Pittsburgh: Please take a few minutes to nominate that individual by Sunday, June 29, 2014 by 11:59 p.m. at

Baltimore: Please take a few minutes to nominate that individual by Monday, July 21, 2014 by 11:59 p.m. at

Here is some additional information about the program:

  • A small business is defined as having less than 100 employees.
  • The award is open to all small business owners in communities in the Trib Total Media market areas and those in the Baltimore region.
  • Nominations should be no longer than ~750 words and must detail the specific contributions the small business owner has made to improve the community through volunteerism.
  • Nominations should also include ~250 words about the nominee’s small business.
  • The winner of the award will receive a $500 cash prize and a $2,000 donation to the winner’s community charity of choice (must be a 501(c)(3)).

A selection committee from Direct Energy and Trib Total Media/Digital 435 by the Baltimore Sun will review all submissions, and the winner will be announced in July/August, respectively. We applaud all of the wonderful volunteers and look forward to recognizing those small business owners who devote their time for the greater good of the community.
