NYC Businesses: Incentives Plentiful for Demand Response Programs

read | Share:

When is the last time your energy company paid you? In addition to shopping for your energy, New York City businesses – building owners, schools, universities, hospitals, and more - should consider participating in Demand Response programs in which participants commit to reduce energy usage when the grid is under stress, and earn significant revenue in return.

NYC businesses can enroll in one or more of the Demand Response (DR) programs available in the NYC area – NYISO SCR, ConEd DLRP, and/or ConEd CSRP - via Direct Energy Business. Combined, the three programs can earn you over $200,000* annually per 1,000 kW.

The primary function of NYISO and ConEd is to maintain the reliability of the electric grid throughout New York to prevent brownouts and blackouts. This means that by participating in DR programs your organization can play an important role in helping your community maintain reliable electric service.

*Estimated annual revenue. Actual value will vary based on several factors including enrollment date.

Why participate in a DR program?

  1. Monthly payments: Your business can earn monthly revenue via a DR program. Many other DR providers pay only quarterly.
  2. A curtailment plan: We can help you find simple ways to curtail your electricity usage.
  3. Savings opportunity: There may be an opportunity for savings if you bundle your DR participation with electricity supply. This savings is only available when you participate in DR with your energy supplier.
  4. One-stop shopping: We can assist you with Local Law compliance (Energy Benchmarking, Audits & Retro-commissioning, and conversion to low cost natural gas) and energy efficiency opportunities.
